HSS INSIDER MAY 2023 | |
Dear ,
HSS is proud to celebrate 160 years of getting people back to what they need and love to do. For 160 years, our doctors, clinicians, and scientists have worked tirelessly to help improve mobility and quality of life for the many people worldwide who suffer from musculoskeletal issues. But, we could not do this important work without generous donors and friends like you.
Movement fuels a world of possibility. Your unwavering partnership enables HSS to advance research, establish enduring support through endowments, and set new standards across the field of musculoskeletal medicine, which I hope you enjoy reading about in this issue of HSS Insider. Thank you for your trust and confidence in us.
With gratitude, Catherine Callagy Chief Development Officer

Paving the Way for Better Care HSS Surgeons Assist in Development of First-Ever ACL Reconstruction Device for Children
The FDA has provided clearance for use of the first-ever device for reconstructing torn knee ligaments in children and adolescents. This device, developed with the help of HSS sports medicine surgeon Frank Cordasco, MD, MS (pictured left), and pediatric orthopedic surgeon Daniel Green, MD, MS, FAAP, FACS (pictured right), is designed to address knee injuries in younger skeletally immature athletes and high-risk young athletes, allowing surgeons to utilize minimally invasive techniques to diminish damage while performing a successful reconstruction.

Moving Orthopedic Research Forward
HSS received a generous gift from Steven P. and Brenda E. Arnoczky to establish an endowment to advance translational orthopedic research at HSS. Steven Arnoczky, DVM, a veterinary surgeon and renowned scientist began his career in orthopedic translational research at HSS over 45 years ago and was the founding Director of the Laboratory for Comparative Orthopaedic Research.
Dr. Arnoczky’s research, which led to seminal discoveries that have advanced patient care, has been recognized by over 30 national and international awards, culminating in his election to the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Hall of Fame, the highest honor in sports medicine research. The Steven P. and Brenda E. Arnoczky Endowment for Translational Orthopedic Research at HSS will enable talented medical students, residents, and fellows to accelerate research breakthroughs that change people’s lives. Learn more about how this commitment will enhance care of orthopedic patients at HSS.
